One injection every six months! The world's only ultra-long-acting biologic for asthma approved, relieving millions of severe asthma patients from frequent medication anxiety!

For millions of patients suffering from severe asthma, frequent medication and the anxiety of acute exacerbations are constant companions. Exdensur™ (depemokimab-ulaa), the first and only ultra-long-acting biologic for asthma approved by the FDFA by the end of 2025, is revolutionizing treatment with its innovative dosing regimen of one dose every 6 months, offering patients a transformative therapeutic experience.

1、Drug Basic Information

This injectable formulation, developed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is specifically designed for patients aged 12 years and older with severe asthma characterized by eosinophilic phenotypes, with its primary indication being as adjunctive maintenance therapy. In brief, it targets patients who may experience disease exacerbations despite conventional pharmacotherapy—patients often plagued by frequent acute asthma attacks and long-term dependence on high-dose corticosteroids, resulting in significantly compromised quality of life.

2、Core therapeutic advantagesExdensur :

Medication convenience: Only 2 doses per year are required, with injections administered every six months. This significantly reduces the frequency of medication compared to traditional treatment regimens, eliminating the need for daily medication reminders. It is particularly suitable for patients with busy work schedules, frequent travel, or concerns about missed doses.

Effective prevention and control of acute exacerbations: In two pivotal 52-week clinical studies (SWIFT-1 and SWIFT-2), the annualized incidence of clinically significant exacerbations in patients treated with Exdensur was only 0.46-0.56, significantly lower than the 1.08-1.11 rate in the placebo group. Moreover, the proportion requiring hospitalization or emergency care was as low as 1%, a marked reduction compared to the 8%-10% rate in the placebo group, thereby relieving patients from the constant fear of sudden asthma attacks.

Unique mechanism of action: Its distinctive YTE structural modification prolongs the drug's duration of action in vivo, ensuring sustained and stable control of inflammation for up to six months.

3、Precautions and Adverse Reactions

It should be particularly noted that Exdensur is a maintenance therapy and is not indicated for the relief of acute bronchospasm or status asthmaticus. Patients with acute exacerbations still require emergency treatment according to the standard protocol. Common adverse reactions include upper respiratory tract infections and allergic rhinitis. Worm infections must be ruled out prior to administration, and abrupt discontinuation of corticosteroids is contraindicated during treatment; instead, a gradual dose reduction is required. For patients with long-term and severe asthma, Exdensur not only represents a "reduction" in medication frequency but also a "increase" in life security. The semi-annual dosing regimen allows patients to comfortably navigate through two seasons without being constrained by frequent medication or sudden risks, truly achieving the therapeutic goal of "minimal medication, stable control." This marks a significant breakthrough in the treatment of severe asthma.
